You guys! It is International Women’s Day. It seems like every day is International Women’s Day here at Weighting Comforts.

We employ the most amazing women from around the world. Today I got to sit down with a few of our employees today to talk to them about their stories.

Let me introduce you to Cawi. Cawi is about 4 feet 6 inches tall. She is small but she is a powerhouse.

She knows every step involved in making a blanket. Recently she was assigned the worst job we have, cutting the fabric. It’s the worst job because it is done alone in a room and it is monotonous. Anwar made sure to show me that Cawi had cleaned the entire room and found a way to improve the process. When I thanked Cawi for her improvements she smiled and said, “This is my work”. She has such a strong work ethic.

Cawi is from Myanmar. She has been in the US as a refugee for 4 years. She left her country with her three children because her country is not safe.

Cawi taught herself how to sew when she was young. She says she likes everything about the US, especially democracy. She misses her brother and sister who remain in Myanmar. She likes Weighting Comforts because it is close to her house and she loves the English classes.

Let me introduce you to Flor. She always wears a white lace cover on her head and a skirt.

Flor is from El Salvador. Recently we started using a serger to finish off the edges inside the duvets. She was so excited because she had used the same type of serger for 15 years in her country. She volunteered to teach the other Spanish speaking ladies how to clean and maintain the machine. Flor is very sweet. When I interviewed her today she told me that she prays for me because I have a good heart!!

(Can you believe this is my life?)

She is married and has two boys. She left El Salvador because it was dangerous. She likes the US better because she has access to better schools and health care.

She likes working at Weighting Comforts because of the good pay, everyone is helpful and she loves sewing.

Yanet is from Mexico. She is kind and a very hard worker.

She misses the big family gatherings in Mexico, but likes the US because it has better opportunities, better school and jobs.

She likes working at Weighting Comforts because she appreciates the compassion we show to our employees and she thinks her co-workers are nice.

Yanet's Mom also works with us. They are a special part of Weighting Comforts.

I am so grateful to have the opportunity to work with such strong women.

My life has completely changed by working with women from all over the world.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
