Braving The Wilderness

Chapter 7

Strong Back. Soft Front.
Wild Heart

This is my favorite chapter of Braving The Wilderness because Brene has the ability to put into words my own deep desires. I want to remain a strong person, be myself and hold healthy boundaries. But sometimes it seems having a strong back creates tension with the idea of a soft front. Yet I have learned what Brene says on pg.153 “Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, joy, trust, intimacy, and courage.”

Through her work, I have learned to share the softest parts of myself with the safest people in my life. I daily reap the fruit of that practice and daily understand that it is a risk. My own children know I have become a kinder and safer person because of this practice.

“The mark of a wild heart is living out the paradox of love in our lives. It’s the ability to be tough and tender, excited and scared, brave and afraid- all at the same moment. It's showing up in our courage, being both fierce and kind.” Pg. 155

I am grateful for Brene's work that tells the truth about living bravely in this difficult and wonderful world. Over and over she reminds me that I have permission to just be myself all the time.

What have you learned from Braving the Wilderness?
Who do you show your soft front to?
What helps you find courage?

Be Comforted,
